Fluval

Fluval is the aquatics brand of the Rolf C. Hagen Group, a Montreal-based pet-products company founded in 1955 — and Fluval's filtration credentials go back further than most brands on our shelves. They introduced the world's first 3-stage filter with a synchronous motor in 1975, then debuted the canister filter format itself in 1982, a design nearly every modern canister filter (including some other brands we stock) still follows. The FX and 07-series lines carry that reputation forward today, delivering strong mechanical and biological filtration without babysitting a filter every week.

Where ADA and Tropica are aquascaping-first brands, Fluval sits more in the mainstream aquarium-equipment space — which is exactly why we carry them. Not every tank in the store is a competition aquascape; a lot of customers just want a filter that handles bioload reliably and a heater that holds temperature without drama.

For planted tanks specifically, Fluval's canister filters also do double duty as a flow platform for CO2 diffusion and even nutrient distribution, which is why you'll see them recommended alongside more aquascaping-specific brands rather than as a fallback option.
